How about releasing the Control Panel so it can be run on any server? That would reduce the central load and the need to limit the number of devices tracked for those who can set it up on their own server.

Have it only record when there is some actual noise such as background noise or speech. This would help determine the culprit's gender and age, and possibly the location based on background noise.

Making the server component available under a free software license would be consistent with the client part of Prey, while letting anyone run they own Prey server.

Nokia has released Maemo (N900) and will release soon a compatible new version, MeeGo (N9) devices, they're both using GNU/Linux and making Prey work with them would be very easy, and great!

En el peor de los casos, sería bueno que tuviese una solución integrada de destrucción de la información que hay en el disco para evitar su uso. Que se active de la misma manera con que lo hace el agente, que podría usarse como última instancia.

I'm helping a friend set up a laptop and am trying to help him insure he will not lose it to theft. I was looking over prey and had a big question: Can't it just be uninstalled?

Any savvy thief can quickly and easily uninstall prey. There needs to be an option to install it as a service, possibly one that you can name yourself.

It seems that, on the Linux version at least, if you just boot the computer up, but don't login, no network connection is made. In that case, the thief will need to know your login password before the machine will report anything. In this scenario, surely the thief will just reformat your disk and Prey will be removed.
It would be better if Prey runs automatically on boot, so that by the time you get to the login screen, it has already connected to a network and reported itself. Is this possible?

Currently, when in the computer is sleeping, and you turn it back on, prey automatically tries to connect to a wifi hotspot, while I want to connect to my router. Also, when trying to connect to a hotspot, windows asks what type of network you want the hotspot to be (home, work or public)
